⭐⭐⭐

It is a truly exhilarating experience for Theo -- helping Charleston's Sea Turtle Protection League shepherd hundreds of tiny green loggerheads safely into the sea.  But just as she's about to celebrate all her hard work with some hearty Lung Ching tea and spicy gumbo, she spots a dead body bobbing in the waves.  It turns out to be local art dealer Harper Fisk -- a man with an eye for fine antiques.  Could his death have anything to do with the sunken treasure and gold bullion rumored to be somewhere near Halliehurst Beach?  Deep in her heart, Theo knows that murder is indeed brewing in Charleston -- and it's up to her to get to the bottom of it before the culprit's greed stirs him to kill again...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Theodosia Browning owns the Indigo Tea Shop, where she has a café that serves tea and also offers tea and tea-related items for sale.  Her two employees are Haley, her baker, and Drayton, her master tea blender.  One night she's on the beach at night helping the Charleston Sea Turtle Protection League as they watch little green loggerhead turtles hatch and head to sea, keeping them safe.  Drayton shows up in the nick of time with a huge pot of gumbo for the volunteers; but when he and Theo notice something large in the water, Theo swims out and discovers it's a body.  So she calls her friend Detective Tidwell, and when it's towed to shore, Drayton recognizes it as a friend of his, Harper Fisk.

When his boat is found, it's ruled an accident; but Theo thinks otherwise, and so does Drayton.  So she starts quietly asking questions of the remainder of the English Breakfast Club, as Fisk and his friends were known (including Drayton) and it leaves her with more questions than answers.

But Theo has other problems: her friend Delaine has roped her into helping with a charity event, and between all her other obligations, it's going to be tight.  But once she agrees, there's no way out of it.  Theo also has a suspect in Fisk's partner, Summer, who seems to be taking his death hard, but that can be faked.  Theo is up to her ears in suspects, with very little clues, and she needs to find out who killed the old man before someone else is another victim...

While I wanted to enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the first three, I found it odd that a woman who owns a tea shop doesn't know the difference between high tea and afternoon tea.  High tea consists of cooked food such as meat pies.  It also had hearty food such as meat sandwiches, cheese, crackers, etc. because this is considered an evening meal.  Afternoon tea has sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, pastries, cakes, etc., and can also be called a cream tea.  (Although Theo would definitely get more business if she did offer high tea, as it would be a dinner meal).

Anyway, the mystery was fine, but it kept getting disrupted by Delaine and her antics.  While she's always been a decent character, she was over-the-top pushy in this book and so demanding that it was as if she didn't care if others had things to do, that her wants and needs took priority, and that's just extremely rude in itself (and she calls Tidwell rude!).

Other than that, look for clues with Theo and watching the action around her made the book somewhat interesting.  When the murderer is discovered, there weren't really and clues leading to that person, so I was a bit disappointed.  But, since I enjoyed the first three books, I will continue to read this series.  There are also quite a few recipes in the back of the book, which sound delicious.

The Indigo Tea Shop, Charleston's favorite spot of tea, has just come out with its latest flavor: Gunpowder Green.  Theodosia Browning cannot wait to hear its praises as it is unveiled at the annual yacht race.  But when she hears the crack of an antique gun meant to end the race, a member of Charleston's elite falls dead.  Theodosia has a hunch that his demise was no accident -- and will go out of her way to prove it.  But if she doesn't act fast, Theo will find herself in hot water with some boiling-mad Charlestonians -- and more than a little gun-chai...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Theodosia Browning owns the Indigo Tea Shop, and she also caters events.  While catering a yacht race picnic, her friend Delaine points out Doe Belvedere, who recently wed Oliver Dixon.  While this wouldn't be a big deal, there's the fact that Doe is only 25 and her groom is 66.  Delaine  states it must be because he's rich, but Theodosia says she probably loves him, too.  An attractive man comes up to Theodosia and introduces himself as Giovanni Loard, an antique dealer and relative of Oliver's, and takes the tray holding tea sandwiches from her and offers to help, then offering them to people.  Theodosia declares him charming, and watches as he eventually makes his way to Oliver's table.  At that point, there appears to be an argument between Oliver and another older man who turns out to be Ford Cantrell.  When the race is about to end, it is Oliver who must fire a  gun into the air, declaring the winner.  But when the gun misfires and Oliver is shot in the head, Theo wonders if it was intentional.

When she's asked by Cantrell's sister Lizbeth - who helped her get through her mother's untimely death when Theo was only eight - she can't refuse.  But discovering that a long-standing feud between the Dixons and Cantrells might have something to do with it, she needs to work harder to try and discover who wanted Oliver dead.  Was it his young widow?  His two sons?  Or someone else entirely?  With little information coming forth from her friend Detective Tidwell, Theo might be in over her head, but something is brewing under the surface, and she needs to find out what it is...

This is the second book in the series, and I liked it as much as the first.  Theo is an interesting woman; she's intelligent and strong, warm and caring, and believes that the truth is important, even if she needs to be the one to find it.  She's perfectly content with her shop and her employees, and even her dog, Earl Grey.  She's not chasing anything better, and having been in the corporate run, this is what she wants.

But when she's asked to help, she doesn't shy away from what might be sticky situations.  Even when she's threatened, she stands her ground, and that makes her even more endearing.  What it leads to is looking even deeper and perhaps putting herself in even more danger to get to find a killer.  The plot is drawn nicely, and there are plenty of twists along the way, and enough suspects that lead us to think that it might be one when it's actually someone else.  It's a delightful mystery that comes to an even more enticing conclusion, with the murderer of course being apprehended and the motive one that will never change over time.  Recommended.

It's tea for two hundred or so at the annual historic homes garden party.  And Theodosia, as event caterer, is busy serving steaming teas and blackberry scones while guests sing her praises.  But the sweet smell of success turns to suspense when an esteemed guest is found dead -- his hand clutching an empty teacup.  All eyes are on Theo...who is now trying desperately to save her reputation and track down the real killer.  If only she can make sense of it all -- before someone else takes their last sip...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Theodosia  "Theo" Browning owns The Indigo Tea Shop in Charleston.  She left a job in advertising because she was tired of well, being tired.  Now she has employees she can count on, and a thriving business.  She's recently learned from one of her friends that Hughes Barron, a developer, is trying to buy the building next door so he can turn it into condos, as he's done closer to the beach.  Her friend is outraged, and figures Theo should be, too.  But Theo wants to see what he's up to before she goes off on anyone.

Unfortunately, at a garden party that Theo is catering, the man turns up dead with one of her teacups in his hand.  When Detective Burt Tidwell tells her he was poisoned, Theo knows it had to be in the cup, since no one else got sick.  But with one of her employees in Tidwell's sights, she decides to do a little sleuthing on her own to see if she can ferret out a killer.  Now, with a little help from her friends, Theo's on a mission to find out what's really brewing...

This is the first in the series and I have to say that I like Theo.  She's reserved, but it's because she was raised to be a lady in the South.  She doesn't go off accusing people, and she doesn't put herself in dangerous situations, nor asks her employees to do so.  Most of her information comes from asking people she knows will have the answers, and it's interesting to watch her do so; she even asks her late father's law partner for a favor.

While there wasn't a lot of action in the book, it wasn't supposed to be.  Theo is quiet and attractive, thoughtful and intelligent.  She owns a dog, Earl Grey, that she adores, and is close with her Aunt Libby, who still lives on the plantation she grew up on.  Although there wasn't a lot of description of the surrounding area, I hope that this will be remedied in future books.  I have to say that I do love Drayton and would love to have a friend like him.

When the ending comes and the killer is revealed, it was a bit of a surprise, and it's got a different twist how Theo gets herself out of the situation.  The reason behind the murder made sense in the murderer's mind, but that's about it.  People are going to be what they are, and there isn't anything else you can do about it.

All in all, a nice cozy that can be read in one evening, with a recipe in the back for those who want to try it.  I will read the next in the series to see where it goes.  Recommended.
