It is a truly exhilarating experience for Theo -- helping Charleston's Sea Turtle Protection League shepherd hundreds of tiny green loggerheads safely into the sea.  But just as she's about to celebrate all her hard work with some hearty Lung Ching tea and spicy gumbo, she spots a dead body bobbing in the waves.  It turns out to be local art dealer Harper Fisk -- a man with an eye for fine antiques.  Could his death have anything to do with the sunken treasure and gold bullion rumored to be somewhere near Halliehurst Beach?  Deep in her heart, Theo knows that murder is indeed brewing in Charleston -- and it's up to her to get to the bottom of it before the culprit's greed stirs him to kill again...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Theodosia Browning owns the Indigo Tea Shop, where she has a café that serves tea and also offers tea and tea-related items for sale.  Her two employees are Haley, her baker, and Drayton, her master tea blender.  One night she's on the beach at night helping the Charleston Sea Turtle Protection League as they watch little green loggerhead turtles hatch and head to sea, keeping them safe.  Drayton shows up in the nick of time with a huge pot of gumbo for the volunteers; but when he and Theo notice something large in the water, Theo swims out and discovers it's a body.  So she calls her friend Detective Tidwell, and when it's towed to shore, Drayton recognizes it as a friend of his, Harper Fisk.

When his boat is found, it's ruled an accident; but Theo thinks otherwise, and so does Drayton.  So she starts quietly asking questions of the remainder of the English Breakfast Club, as Fisk and his friends were known (including Drayton) and it leaves her with more questions than answers.

But Theo has other problems: her friend Delaine has roped her into helping with a charity event, and between all her other obligations, it's going to be tight.  But once she agrees, there's no way out of it.  Theo also has a suspect in Fisk's partner, Summer, who seems to be taking his death hard, but that can be faked.  Theo is up to her ears in suspects, with very little clues, and she needs to find out who killed the old man before someone else is another victim...

While I wanted to enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed the first three, I found it odd that a woman who owns a tea shop doesn't know the difference between high tea and afternoon tea.  High tea consists of cooked food such as meat pies.  It also had hearty food such as meat sandwiches, cheese, crackers, etc. because this is considered an evening meal.  Afternoon tea has sandwiches, scones, clotted cream, pastries, cakes, etc., and can also be called a cream tea.  (Although Theo would definitely get more business if she did offer high tea, as it would be a dinner meal).

Anyway, the mystery was fine, but it kept getting disrupted by Delaine and her antics.  While she's always been a decent character, she was over-the-top pushy in this book and so demanding that it was as if she didn't care if others had things to do, that her wants and needs took priority, and that's just extremely rude in itself (and she calls Tidwell rude!).

Other than that, look for clues with Theo and watching the action around her made the book somewhat interesting.  When the murderer is discovered, there weren't really and clues leading to that person, so I was a bit disappointed.  But, since I enjoyed the first three books, I will continue to read this series.  There are also quite a few recipes in the back of the book, which sound delicious.

What do you do when you're craving something sweet but don't want to bake a full batch?  Small Batch Baking has the perfect solution, with 60 recipes for sweet and savory treats that have been expertly scaled down to make just enough for you!

Baking in small batches means fewer leftovers, less food waste, and the ability to eat everything while it's still fresh.  And this friendly guide breaks it down for you, meaning you won't need to calculate any complex measurement conversions.  Just follow the tips and instructions and you'll be whipping up smaller versions of cakes, brownies, breads, pies, and so much more.

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

I wanted to see this book because it's just my husband and I in the household and making large recipes leaves us with so many leftovers that we do wind up throwing a lot of it out.  I must say that I was pleasantly surprised by the recipes.  In this book, you won't find anything 'fancy'; i.e., recipes that have odd ingredients or additions to make it sound exotic.  These are recipes that will appeal to almost anyone:  Strawberry cupcakes with Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting, Cinnamon Apple Turnovers, Pumpkin Walnut Muffins, even Brioche Hamburger Buns.

These are smaller versions of recipes and make 6 cupcakes instead of 12, etc.  The cinnamon rolls on the cover look especially delicious.  I am glad that I discovered this, and the recipes work well, from easy to those that take a little more work (Tiramisu) but the results are delightful.  I would definitely recommend this cookbook to others.

Summer in Boggy Creek has arrived, and Gia's best friend, successful real estate agent Savannah, is getting hitched.  Now she's enlisted Gia's sleuthing talents in a desperate search for the perfect wedding dress.  But when Savannah mysterious vanishes after showing a mansion to a bigwig client, Gia investigates the house Savannah was trying to sell.  The first clue she finds is Savannah's car in the driveway.  Inside the house, they stumble on Savannah's potential buyer -- dead.  Someone had apparently closed the deal -- with a two by four full of nails to the client's head.  Soon afterward, a woman's body is fished from the lake near the same house.  The townsfolk are not sweating bullets over the murders, and the heat comes down on poor Gia to find her missing friend, and track down the killer...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Gia Morelli owns the All Day Breakfast Café in Boggy Creek, Florida.  Her best friend Savannah is a real estate agent, and has been given the opportunity to show a mansion to Buster Clarke.  When Earl, the cafe's first (and regular) customer hears about it, he asks Savannah not to go.  When she won't budge, he asks her to bring someone with her.  But Savannah, insistent she knows what she's doing, doesn't take his advice.  When Savannah doesn't return at an allotted time when she was supposed to pick out her wedding dress with Gia, Gia gets worried enough that she enlists the help of her friend Trevor to go find her.

When they arrive at the mansion, they don't find Savannah, but they do find a very dead Buster.  They call the police, and Savannah's police officer boyfriend Leo, and cousin Hunt, chief detective, show up and are worried sick for her.  But Gia feels guilty and isn't about to let Hunt look for Savannah without her.  Now Gia needs to figure out who took her friend -- but when rival business people (and possibly underworld figures) the Clarkes and Espositios get involved, it soon becomes clear that something much larger is occurring -- and Gia might be right in the middle of it...

This is the fifth book in the series, and I must say that I enjoyed it so thoroughly that I read it in one sitting.  The action starts right at the beginning, and then twists all its threads to go in different directions that keep you wondering where they're going to lead.  Once you decide that you know where everything is heading, it changes, and there's secrets and surprises galore.

One big surprise shows up later in the book, and it could change everything that's been going on, and the person to figure it out isn't Gia, which is another surprise.  But the threads finally come together, and you get to see the picture that is being woven.  When it all comes together in the end, it does so not without losses, but gives us something to look forward to in the next book.  Highly recommended.

Something is not right.  She can feel it in her bones.

Melody's investigation meets unexpected blockades.  As she turns to a close friend for help in part three of this riveting series, Melody is not sure who she can trust on Deacon Island.

One area of her life at least seems to have a steady growth and that is her relationship with Will.  But unforeseen circumstances and a Deacon family secret make for an interesting tumble of events.

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Melody has come to Deacon Island to look for her father.  She isn't sure he's there, but she's trying to find clues regarding his whereabouts, and if anyone can remember seeing him.  But unfortunately for her, she feels betrayed by what she's found so far...

It seems that people she might have trusted are now suspicious of her, and she doesn't know who to call friend or foe.  After an injury she's able to return to work, and finds something that might be a clue, but leads her to something else unexpected.  Now Melody is trying to figure out if her instincts are right or wrong, and she calls a friend in the States for help, which only causes more uncertainty...

This is the third chapter in this series and I must say that I enjoyed it quite as much as the first two.  Melody certainly has a knack for finding herself in dire situations, and must use all of her wits to get herself back on track again.  This installment is probably the most interesting one that I have read so far, and it was quite pleasurable to read.  I look forward to the next in the series.

The Tarzana Hookers' Yarn University has been a big success, and the classes have drawn in a slew of new crochet devotees.  A less welcome arrival is the boxy monstrosity in the yard behind Molly's house.  She hasn't met her new neighbors, but when she sees a couple struggling on the balcony and later spies what looks like someone lying on the ground, Molly wastes no time calling in her ex, homicide detective Barry Greenberg.

To Molly's shock, Barry reports that nothing is amiss with her neighbors and asks her to lay off with the amateur detecting.  Molly knows she wasn't just seeing things, but with no body to prove her case, she'll have to unravel the evidence on her own -- because someone in Tarzana is tangled up in murder...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Molly Pink is a widow who works at a bookstore as Events Coordinator/Assistant Manager.  She and her fellow Tarzana Hookers, their crochet club, use their free time to get together and crochet.  They have some new members, including a woman named Lauren, who won't talk about her past.

But there's more going on in Molly's life.  Her parents have moved back to Tarzana and her mother, member of a girls' group called The She La La's is practicing their dance steps at Molly's so they're always underfoot.  Molly's gentleman friend, Mason, a celebrity attorney, is having both professional problems with a client and the fact that his ex-wife Jaime and daughter Brooklyn are living with him, leaving no place for them to get together.  Then, her friends Dinah and Adele are both getting married and having problems of their own.

To add to the confusion, there's a huge house going up behind Molly's and she's sure she's seen nefarious doings.  She's convinced someone was murdered, but when her ex, homicide detective Barry Greenberg, goes to investigate, he finds nothing and tells her to leave it alone.  Of course we know she won't; and when she involves her best friend Dinah they manage to garner a clue.  Albeit a small one, but a clue nonetheless.

What makes it worse is she discovers the people she's investigating are celebrities themselves -- members of their own group, the ChLiLas, and their leader, Cheyenne, has temporarily joined the group, and what's more, agreed that she and her sisters will perform at the bookstore.  This gives one of the owners an idea to have musical events, which only add to Molly's duties and frustration, as one more problem pops up.

Now, with very little time and very little clues, she's convinced someone is dead.  The problem is: who is it, and where is their body?...

I have read all of these books so far, and I must say, for some reason that after reading this one I felt dissatisfied.  It wasn't anything specific that I can put my finger on; the murder was solved and the murderers were caught, as we always know they will be.  I think it is more that I am getting frustrated with Molly and her actions.  She claims to always be in a relationship, but never spends any time with the person she's involved with.  How is that a relationship?  I have a better one with the cashier at my grocery store than Molly does with either her ex, Barry, or her current love, Mason.  That, and the fact that we never get anywhere before the book ends.  It's becoming annoying and distracting from the murder investigation.  She needs to sit down and talk with someone about why she won't open up instead of complaining about others not opening up to her.

I think I'm also getting tired of Adele's hysterics.  I get that it's supposed to be humorous, but it's grating most of the time and I just want to slap her and tell her to get it together.  Jeez, she's a grown woman.  Handle your problems, lady.

Other than these things, the mystery itself was fine, and I enjoyed looking for clues.  I was surprised by ending, but that's not a bad thing; the murderer was not anyone I would have suspected.  So, it was a decent mystery and it took less than a day to read, making it an easy one to get through.

Knitting and crocheting books are selling like crazy at the bookstore where Molly works, so to keep the customers coming, she sets up a series of classes where the Tarzana Hookers can pass on their skills to others: a Yarn University.  The only problem is the teacher of the most popular seminar - Sheila - is getting a massive case of stage fright about being in front of a crowd.

To ease Sheila's nerves, the Hookers plan a practice class at crocheter CeeCee's mansion.  But before the lesson begins, Molly and the gang stumble upon a dead body in the apartment above CeeCee's garage.  Now, Molly must unravel the clues to find a killer quickly -- or school might be out forever...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Molly Pink is Event Coordinator and Assistant Manager at Shedd & Royal's Bookstore in Tarzana.  She's trying to put together Yarn University, where people can learn different types of crochet.  Unfortunately, one of the Tarzana Hookers, as the club calls itself, is having a bad case of stage fright.  Sheila is shy anyway, but her projects are so lovely that Molly has convinced her to teach a class.  When they decide to do a "practice class" over at their friend CeeCee's mansion, they come across a body in the apartment above the garage.

Molly is once again drawn into a murder investigation, to no surprise of Homicide Detective Barry Greenberg, who once had a relationship with her; and to the delight of Mason Fields, her current boyfriend and celebrity defense attorney.  Mason was injured in a car accident, and is now itching to get back into the game, as it were.

When Molly finds the body, she notices a clue no one else does, but while it doesn't mean anything yet, she can't get it out of her mind.  But she has other things to worry about: Mason's ex-wife and daughter are staying with him, and they don't want her anywhere near him (while he wants her there); Adele is driving everyone crazy with her wedding preparations (though no date has been set); and other problems concerning her best friend Dinah, and Barry.

But Molly still wants to do her job well, so tries to put it out of her mind, yet can't.  Her innate curiosity is driving her to figure things out, and she enlists not only the help of Dinah, but also Barb, a woman whom she met through CeeCee and has decided she wants to be a member of the club.  While Molly's problems escalate, so does her certainty that this young woman was murdered by someone she knows, but she can't prove it.  And if she doesn't figure it out soon, she won't have to worry about anything else...

I have read every book in the series so far, and have gone with Molly from the loss of her husband to where she is now.  I won't lie and say I've enjoyed every book (I haven't) but I have delighted in spending time with Molly in this one.  She's struggling to organize her life (yeah, sure) and of course, isn't able to have everything the way she'd like.  She's too busy trying to solve another murder (with help, of course) and stay out of the eye of Barry, who doesn't like her investigating.  She's also trying to navigate her new relationship with Mason, but his ex-wife and daughter Brooklyn keep getting in the way.  What Molly needs is a vacation (when?).

So we watch as she does her best, gleaning clues along the way and trying to be supportive to her friends.  It's an interesting combination, and there is plenty going on to keep one interested.  While I can't like her son Peter (who could be kinder and more understanding to the woman who raised him), there are others who stand by her side, and it's nice to see.

In the end, when everything starts to come together, it's a climax you don't expect and one that is surprising as well, which is how it should be.  It's satisfying and makes for a pleasant reading experience.  Recommended.

Discover the range of flavors you can unleash when you cook with a cast-iron skillet.  Featuring guidance on getting started with cast iron, and with a wide variety of recipes perfectly suited for home cooks of all skill levels, The Complete Cast-Iron Skillet Cookbook is a must-have for any chef interested in unlocking the full potential of cast iron skillets.

Start things off by finding out how to pick the right skillet for you.  Learn how to properly season, clean, and even rescue a rusty cast iron skillet -- or jump into a collection of recipes that spans everything from traditional cast iron skillet fare to sandwiches, pizza, and even gluten-free and vegetarian-friendly dishes.

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

I ordered this cookbook because I have just decided to start using cast iron skillets.  I had one years ago, but never got much use out of it; then I discovered a few recipes I wanted to try, and saw that this cookbook had many I'd be happy to make.  There are recipes from breakfast to dessert, and many of them sound yummy.

Of course, the standard Dutch baby should, and is, there; this is actually my favorite thing to make in a cast iron skillet.  You can make them savory or sweet (there are both types here) and they are delicious no matter which one you choose.

There are also enticing dishes such as Biscuit-Topped Chicken Pot Pie, Bacon-Wrapped Scallops, Shrimp and Scallop Scampi, and even Irish soda bread, Blueberry Scones, and Apple Crisp.  All sound delicious, and those I've made have turned out beautifully.

While the recipes are mostly far from traditional, they are, in my opinion, worth it to take the time to make them.  From small families to large, there is something here for everyone.  Highly recommended.

As the owner of Coffee, Books, and More, Jill Gardner likes to support other Main Street businesses, so she attends a paint-and-sip event where, sadly, her brushstrokes look more like blobs.  It's still fun, though -- aside from some disruption by a couple doing more sipping than painting.  Jill's police-detective boyfriend is on alert, but a designated driver volunteers to take the drunken pair back to their bed and breakfast, and everything seems resolves.  Until the wife's body turns up the next morning back in the studio.

The victim, Nan, is from out of town, so it's hard to imagine who'd have a motive aside from her spouse.  Now, in between puzzling over her fortuneteller neighbor's strange behavior, preparing for her best friend's wedding, and pouring cups of java at the bookstore, Jill must uncover the secrets of Nan's life and find out who wanted her out of the picture...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Jill Gardner has her hands full with a new employee, running her store, and getting ready for her best friend Amy's wedding, which is in a couple of weeks.  At one of her Business-to-Business meetings, she's invited to attend a paint-and-sip event at a new business in town, run by Meredith Cole. During the evening, a woman named Nan Gunter is very drunk and causing scenes.  Assured by Neal, Meredith's husband, that he will take them back to the B&B, Greg and Jill enjoy their evening.

The next morning, Nan's body is found inside the art studio, and now Greg has a murder on his hands.  While Jill is sure Meredith couldn't have had anything to do with it, she doesn't know who would kill the woman.  More problems arise with Esmeralda, Jill's neighbor and Greg's receptionist.  With Jill stuck in the middle of both work and personal problems, trying to help solve a murder just doesn't seem to fit in with her time.  But she can't sit still with a killer on the loose, one who might be just around the corner...

This is the twelfth book in the series, and I have read them all.  This is one of my favorite series, and I do like Jill quite a bit.  South Cove is a nice little tourist town, but just like all towns it has its share of both nice and not-so-nice people.  This time out, we have a frantic bridezilla in the form of Amy, who keeps changing her plans about things even so close to her wedding, and has problems of her own that Jill can't help her with.  Jill's aunt, who just got back from her own honeymoon, hasn't any time to spend with Jill, so she's depending on her employees, Toby, who's also a police officer, Deek, and newbie Evie, who now lives in the apartment above the coffee shop.  I do love Deek, with his aura-reading abilities and studying hard to be a writer; Jill got lucky with him and he's one of the most interesting characters in the book.

Back to the murder: with Jill trying to figure out who killed Nan, she goes to her usual place of visiting Doc Ames, who gives her a surprise regarding the woman.  Then Jill is off again, trying to put the clues together.  It actually doesn't come until late in the game, which is distinctly what a good mystery should do anyway.  Ms. Cahoon is a talented writer who can bring people into the world of her characters and enjoy being there.

When the ending comes, the murder is solved nicely (as we know it will be) and it leaves us with waiting for the next book eagerly.  I hope that it comes soon.  Highly recommended.

Between working as a law firm receptionist, reluctantly pitching in as co-owner of her twin sister's restaurant, and caretaking for her regal Siamese RahRah and rescue dog Fluffy, Sarah has no time to enjoy life's finer things.  Divorced and sort-of dating, she's considering going back to school.  But as a somewhat competent sleuth, Sarah's more suited for criminal justice than learning how many ways she can burn a meal.

Although she wouldn't mind learning some knife skills from her sous chef, Grace Winston, an adjunct instructor who teaches cutlery expertise in cooking college, Grace is considering accepting an executive chef's position offered by Jane Clark, Sarah's business rival -- and her late ex-husband's lover.  But Grace's future lands in hot water when the school's director is found dead with one of her knives in his back.  To clear her friend's name, Sarah must sharpen her own skills at uncovering an elusive killer...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Sarah Winston lives in a carriage house with her Siamese cat, RahRah, and her rescue dog Fluffy.  She works as a receptionist at a criminal law firm, and in her spare time helps her sister Emily out at their co-owned restaurant and volunteers at the local animal shelter.  This day she's wondering why Emily's sous chef Grace Winston asked her to meet at the local college.  When Grace finally does arrive late, she tells Sarah that she's just had a heated argument with the head of the department where Grace is teaching knife skills.  When they both go back to Grace's classroom to clean up, they find the man dead.  Now it's a crime scene, and Grace is suspected of murder.

But Sarah knows Grace isn't guilty, and asks her employer Harlan to represent Grace.  While he doesn't want Sarah investigating and putting herself in danger, Sarah isn't going to listen, of course.  When Sarah starts digging, she finds plenty of suspects and motives.  But now the question is who wanted the man dead and why?  Sarah needs to watch herself, or she might be the next one whose life is sliced short...

This is the fourth book in the series, and I enjoyed it as much as the last one.  I do like the fact that Sarah has a twin and they are so different, but I would think that at this point Sarah might want to take a cooking class at that college.  I delight in cooking.  My three sisters, not so much.  But at least they can cook well enough to survive (I hope).

The book had a very good plot, with someone killed practically at the beginning and the rest of the book with Sarah trying to find a murderer.  Couple that with her nemesis Jane trying constantly to undermine Emily's success with Southwind, Emily's restaurant on a regular basis, and you have a detailed scenario that gives Sarah's the tools needed to unmask a murderer.  But the clues are far between, although they are there if you look for them, and we discover the murderer almost at the same time as Sarah, which is the point of a mystery.

In the end, I thought this was an interesting mystery peopled with plenty of characters, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

It promises to be Greyborne Harbor's wedding of the year.  The impending nuptials of Serena Chandler and Zach Ludlow will take place aboard his family's luxurious super-yacht, currently moored in the harbor and the talk of the town.  But on the day of the wedding, a man's body washes up on the beach with no ID, only a torn page from a book in his pocket.  As owner of Beyond the Page Books and Curios, bibliophile Addie is called in to identify the book, but she cannot.

The morning following the extravagant ceremony, a second body washes ashore and Addie has a sinking feeling that the two deaths are connected.  While the guests are held on the yacht as the police investigate, at least Addie can peruse Zach's father's rare books library on board.  A copy of Agatha Christie's first Hercule Poirot novel, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, provides a clue that the killer may still be on the ship -- but narrowing down the suspects without becoming the next victim may prove a truly Herculean task...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Addison Greyborne lives in Greyborne Harbor and owns a bookshop that deals in both new and rare books.  While preparing for her best friend Serena's wedding, she's called by Serena's brother Marc, chief of police, to the station.  He needs her help in identifying the body of dead man who was found with nothing but a torn corner from a book.  Unfortunately, Addie can't help him and leaves to go to the super-yacht where the wedding is to be held.

When a second body is discovered after the wedding, the ship is locked down with guests aboard, since any one of them could be the murderer.  Now Marc needs Addie's help more than ever, and if one of them doesn't find a killer soon, they may be out to sea forever...

This is the sixth book in the series and perhaps my favorite one so far.  Addie is stuck on a yacht with a group of people she doesn't know and a couple she does; and she enlists the help of her friend Catherine and employee Paige to help her try and figure out who wanted these people dead.  Since Addie is, at least, being asked by Marc to help, she's given more information from the police than she ordinarily would have -- and Marc's not telling her to leave it alone.

But when Addie starts her investigating, she finds out things she wish she really didn't know, and secrets she didn't want to come across.  Could any of them give cause to murder?  And how did they get the body off the ship when it was full of people?

The mystery is done very nicely; there are enough red herrings on this ship to make a feast out of it.  We do also get to see how the relationship with Addie and Simon is going, as well as the one with Marc and Ryley, and there are surprises there as well.

Not wanting to give much more away than what I've said, I will say that it all comes together nicely, and the murderer is discovered just in the nick of time.  This is a very good book than can be read in one sitting and I enjoyed it quite a bit.  Recommended.

January isn't the season for the seaside, but the big Fire and Ice festival is keeping bookstore owner Addie busy.  Amid the plans for a fireworks display and an ice-carving competition, she's also dog sitting for a friend in the hospital.  When Addie goes to her friend's house to gather supplies, she notices an interesting item on the nightstand which belongs to her shop assistant, Paige: a very valuable copy of the beloved children's book The Secret Garden.

But Addie's blood runs cold when she finds something else: a dead body behind the bakery next door to her shop.  Martha, the bakery owner, has no alibi -- and has been seen in a heated argument with the victim.  And the next thing Addie knows, that first edition has gone missing.  Is there a connection between the body and the treasured tome?  If there is, it's up to Addie to find a killer with a motive as hidden as Frances Hodgson Burnett's famous garden...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Addie Greyborne lives in a small New England town and owns a bookshop.  One morning a friend's little dog shows up at her shop barking.  When she runs across the street to the park, she finds his owner Gloria on the ground, having fallen from a ladder while decorating for the local festival.  When it's determined she needs to have a hip replacement, Addie is determined as the best person to care for the little dog, and goes with her friend and next-door business owner Martha to collect things for the dog.

While at Gloria's home she also notices a copy of The Secret Garden on Gloria's night stand.  When Martha tells her that it belongs to her daughter Paige, Addie's employee, Addie tells Martha that it might just be worth over $25,000, which stuns Martha.

But there are other things occupying Martha's mind and which Addie wants to ask her, but won't: like who were the men and woman she was arguing with outside her shop?  And why was she threatening them?  Unfortunately, the next day, when Addie goes to work, she and a homeless man named Bill find the dead body of one of the men behind Martha's shop -- and it promptly puts Martha in lead position as the suspect in killing him.  When she's arrested for the murder, Addie promises Paige to do all she can to save her.

But Addie has other things on her mind, too: when she goes to Gloria's home to retrieve the book for her, it's missing.  And there doesn't appear to be any forced entry.  So where is the book?  Is it related to the death?  If the police won't listen, Addie has no choice but once again to try and find a killer.  But maybe this time she'll wish she hadn't...

This is the fifth book in the series, and I do believe that it might be one of the best ones.  Addie has more trouble than she wants with her cousin Kalea living with her -- honestly, this woman is a royal pain and I would send her back where she came from after the things she does; but then, that's only my opinion.  Addie's too nice to her.  I also don't like Ryley much; she really doesn't like Addie and allows it to color her professional work.  Marc should rein her in.  She's unlikable.

Other than that, I did like the mystery itself.  It was interesting to see Addie trying to understand if the missing book was somehow connected to the murder, even though the police had to 'follow the evidence'.  True; but sometimes you need to follow your instincts, too, which is what Addie does and why she's so good at figuring things out.

I did like all the little subplots and getting to know more about Martha's past and what has made her the way she is; it's always nice when you learn about the lives of the secondary characters; and I did like the hint that we may see more of Jonathan in later books.  He enchanted me, but only because I like the cloak-and-dagger history of his life.

The story is rife with twists and turns that take the reader to other area's besides Addie's life; although we do see her still struggling with certain areas of her budding relationship with Simon, but it centers more on her not wanting to see Paige hurt or even caring for the little dog in her guardianship, as it were.  There were clues throughout; you just had to look for them.

When Addie starts to get closer to finding the answers she wants, it comes from an unlikely source, and that's when she puts it all together.  It was a satisfying ending that left me pleased with the book and looking forward to the next in the series.  Recommended.

The seaside New England town of Greyborne Harbor is home to many grand estates, including the Queen Anne Victorian Addie inherited from her great aunt.  Now one of those mansion's is holding an estate sale, which is just what the bookshop owner needs to replenish her supply of rare editions -- even if the house is rumored to be haunted.  Assisting an overwhelmed insurance appraiser with the inventory, Addie discovers an 1887 magazine containing Arthur Conan Doyle's first Sherlock Holmes novel, A Study in Scarlet, which she estimates to be worth over one hundred and fifty thousand dollars.

But when Addie later finds the appraiser dead in the estate's private library, with the door bolted from the inside, and the priceless edition missing, it's a mystery worthy of the Great Detective himself.  She's certain the death and the robbery are connected -- but who, other than a ghost who can walk through walls, could have gotten in to do the deed?  It's up to Addie to find the key to the crime -- before she's the next one cornered by a killer...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Addie Greyborne owns a bookstore that deals in both new and rare books, and lives in a Queen Anne Victorian she inherited from her late aunt.  She wants to attend an estate sale, but her friends don't want her to go, insisting the place is haunted.  Refusing to believe in ghosts, Addie does go and meets an old friend who's conducting the auction.  While there, she runs into her cousin whom she hasn't seen in ten years, and also offers to help appraise the remaining books when the hired appraiser seems to be over her head.

During the appraisal, Addie discovers several rare first editions, especially a magazine from 1887 that carried A Study in Scarlet, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's public introduction to Sherlock Holmes.  She tells her friend Blake, who's running the sale, and leaves.  The next day she returns for the private sale, coming early to help set up, and she and Blake discover the appraiser in the vast library -- dead.  She also notices the books are missing and cheap replicas have been put in their stead.  The police don't think it's a murder, but Addie knows it must be, and the theft is connected somehow.

It doesn't help that police chief Marc Chandler, who was recently involved with Addie, has returned and he's treating Addie like a suspect in the thefts and, if it's proven, murder.  Addie has only herself and her friends to depend on to solve this crime, and it will take all of her wits to get her out of becoming a part of the past herself...

This is the fourth book in the series, and I will say that I liked it much better than the first three.  Addie isn't so petulant in this one; she's beginning to act like the adult that she is, so that's a positive change in the books.  However, I really didn't care for Marc in this one.  Instead of thinking logically, which means taking into consideration everything he knows about Addie personally, he acts like a total jerk in most of the book, and it seemed to be nothing more than revenge-laden.  He never went to bat for her once, and he knows her as a person.  She's helped him solve murders in the past, and he should have taken that into consideration and at least listened to her theories as being plausible.  It was as if one Marc went on vacation and a different one returned.  It didn't make me happy, to say the least.

At any rate, the plot was a very good one, with red herrings thrown everywhere and the true killer not being shown until close to the end.  When it all came together, it did so nicely, with Addie giving us a rather humorous conclusion to it all.  In the end, I enjoyed the story and so will continue on with the series.

Addie's getting into the spirit for the upcoming Charity Auction -- especially since she's got an 1843 copy of Charles Dickens's a Christmas Carol  to donate.  Her former colleagues at the Boston Public Library have confirmed that its worth runs toward the high five figures, which should help with the new pediatric wing.  Her mood darkens, though, when a visitor from the past appears -- Jonathan Hemingway, the father of her late fiancé.  His presence stirs up sad memories for Addie, but also has her fuming when Jonathan, true to his womanizing ways, runs off for a lunchtime liaison with Teresa Lang, who's in charge of  the auction.

Soon after, Addie heads to Teresa's office at the hospital -- and finds the poor woman's dead body.  What she doesn't find is her valuable first edition.  What sort of Scrooge would steal from sick children and commit murder in the process?  As a Nor'easter bears down and a mystery emerges about Jonathan's past, Addie must find out if she can appraise people's motives and characters as well as she can appraise rare books...

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Addie Greyborne lives in a small town named after her family, and she owns a bookstore.  She inherited a Victorian home and enough money to do so from a late relative.  When she discovers a rare edition of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol, she decides to donate it to a charity auction that will benefit the pediatric wing of the hospital.  She receives the authentication of the book from a friend in Boston, and when she takes it to Teresa Lang, who's heading the auction, she finds the woman dead.  This causes more problems than just a dead body...

It seems her late fiancé's father, Jonathan Hemingway, is in town unannounced, and he was to meet with Teresa for lunch, but tells her the woman had another appointment.  The book is gone, stolen from its case and no one can find it.  Her assistant Patrick is frantic, trying to find another book for the live auction, Jonathan is romancing her friend, and she can't commit to either of the men who are interested in her -- police chief Marc Chandler, or Dr. Simon Emerson.  Addie's life is in turmoil.

However, Addie being Addie is determined to help find the killer, because it's her book that is missing, and she's decided that Jonathan has something to do with it, even if she can't find any proof.  Even though everyone is telling her to leave it alone, she's not going to do so; not even when the killer sends her a message that tells her she might be next...

This is the third book in the series, and while I had decided not to read another one, I did so only because I love Christmas and this book takes place during that time.  While Christmas isn't the main theme, it still does rear its head now and then.  Addie is looking for a killer, and her partner in crime, best friend Serena, is helping her find clues.  Unfortunately, Addie is determined to place the title directly on the head of her almost-father-in-law Jonathan, but can't find anything incriminating, which irritates her.

Honestly, I loved Jonathan the most.  His character is not only intriguing, he has charm and wit, two things that are valued in people by me.  Addie was like a dog with a bone, and it soon became tiring, even though other clues showed up to lead her in the right direction.

Now she has a choice to make between Marc and Simon -- if she can let go of David; his memory is keeping her from living her life, and Jonathan seems aware of this, as do the two men; but Addie is stubborn and refuses to accept it.  I do feel that Addie really needs to grow up.  She acts like a teenager with all her stubbornness, her pouting, her refusal to listen to anyone.  These are not the actions of a grown woman who owns her own business.  This does not show a strong, independent woman; they are the actions of a petulant teen who isn't getting her own way.

When the ending comes and the murderer is revealed, it turns out to be more complex than anyone could have imagined; but the ending also gives Addie perhaps a new beginning to her relationship with Jonathan (and I do so hope to see him in future books once in a while).  I did enjoy the ending and will continue with this series because of it.

When oyster farmer Andie Greatorex is robbed of a bucket of oyster seed worth $35,000, she comes to Julia Snowden for help.  Who wants to sink Andie's successful business?  Is it a rival oyster farmer, an ex-employee, a neighbor who objects to the oyster cages floating on the beautiful Damariscotta River, a lobsterman who feels pushed out by the farm leases, or someone from Andie's personal life?

Then Andie turns up dead, floating by her dock in the scuba gear she wears when harvesting her oysters.  Julia's head start puts her in a perfect position to help her friends in the Main State police major crimes unit with the investigation.  But can Julia make sure the right suspect gets sent up the river before she ends up in a watery grave?

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Julia Snowden runs the family Maine Clambake business, which has been successful so far.  It's getting close to the beginning of the season, and she's just going through applications for summer employees when her boyfriend Chris shows up with his friend Andie Greatorex.  It seems Andie was attacked and robbed recently of $35,000 worth of oyster seed, and wants to know who's trying to intimidate her.  But when Julia agrees to question people about it, she finds out that Andie wants to expand her business, and therefore is making enemies all around, which is making Julia's inquiries harder.  When she goes to Andie's one morning to meet with her, she finds her dead in the river.  Shaken, she calls the police and now her friend Binder and Flynn of the Maine State police major crimes unit are on the case.

But when Julia keeps asking questions, two things are also occurring: she's discovering that there are plenty of suspects, and that some of these answers are hitting too close to home.  It's causing her personal problems, and if she doesn't put it aside, she might be the next one to go down permanently...

This is the ninth book in the series, and I have read them all.  And I have loved them all -- except for this one.  While I do enjoy hearing about the area around Maine, having never been there myself, I felt that this book was basically Oyster Farming 101.  There was a lot of conversations and explanations about how oysters are grown and harvested, and much of it was repetitive, telling us that they live on the bottom of the riverbed over and over.

I imagine if you love oysters you might find this fascinating, but I don't like slimy food and I don't care for oysters, so none of this was interesting to me.  What could have been said in one chapter was said all through the book.  I felt that it slowed down the book.  So this was a big downside to me, considering I felt that it took away from the mystery itself.  Saying that, I did think the book was written well as Ms. Ross has never disappointed in that area.  She manages to bring us to Maine throughout the various seasons, and shows us what life is like for the land dwellers and seamen both.  Her descriptions of the area are delightful, and I do love reading about the area.

I also like the various people in Busman's Cove itself.  Unfortunately, we didn't get to see much of them, either, in this book.  It mainly centered on Julia's investigation, which didn't include any of them, and the fringe life of Chris, which, as all I will say, played a major part in this one.

What I disliked the most the ending.  I felt it was extremely disappointing, and I have to say that if I had known, I would have probably skipped this one.  I do not want anyone to think that this book isn't worth reading; it truly is if you're following the series, but you must draw your own conclusions about the ending,  Saying all I have done, I will continue to read this series as I do like Ms. Ross's writing.

Mira Michaels can hear her cat talk.  And after moving to her new home, she thinks she might see ghosts as well.  this was the last thing she needed.  If there was anything she wanted more, it was to get away from her sister's psychic shenanigans.  But when Mira finds her realtor dead, she must use all her wits not to call her sister for help.

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Mira Michaels is moving to a small town in Pennsylvania.  She's escaping memories of an ex-boyfriend who ran off with her money, and a psychic sister who micromanages her life.  She's made a big decision in her life: she's bought an old Victoria home and plans to renovate it then flip it.  There's also one other thing about Mira: she can talk to her cat.  Not as in a normal conversation, but hear Arnold in her head when he wants to tell her something.  So there's that...

But when Mira arrives, she finds the body of her realtor in her new kitchen.  Dead.  As in very dead.  When she calls the police, they inform her that she can't stay in the home, so, since she's made a new friend in the owner of the local diner (who luckily lives practically next door) she winds up staying at the home of Aerie, a yoga instructor/diner operator and her brother Jay, who owns a construction company.

Then after Mira is given the alright to go back, there's an explosion, and she barely gets out of the house alive.  But not without help.  At least not without help that she's willing to talk about to anyone.  Not unless she wants them to think she's crazy...

When other unusual occurrences happen, Mira and Aerie decide to find out what's going on before there's another dead body.  If only Mira can stay alive long enough to find the killer...

This is the first book in a new series, and it's fun to read.  There is plenty of action going on, from the moment Mira steps inside her new home, until the end of the book when the murderer is apprehended (as we know they will be).  In between, Mira is making friends and finding out about the townspeople and a bit of their lives, which I imagine will be explored more in future books.

I think Aerie is a very interesting character; she runs a small-town diner and is always trying to feed her customers gluten-free or vegan food (which they, of course, aren't interested in eating).  It's a different twist on things, and I like the way it works in this book.

We get to meet Mira Michaels, who, along with her cat, Arnold, are on the trail of a killer while he's trying to tell her what to do (don't all cats?  At least mine do).  Mira doesn't pay much attention to him until there's a telling conversation when she begins to think things through.  At that point, it brings her closer to the killer.  Mira is determined not to call her psychic sister Darla, since Darla has interfered in her life and she wants to make it on her own.  Unfortunately, that means surviving, if she can.

In the end, it all comes together nicely, with the murderer being an unusually surprising one, and I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next in the series.

Wake up on a houseboat moored in scenic Alexandria Bay, New York.  Ride the gentle waves to work at quaint Bayside Books, where you spend your days supplying literature and conversation to the charming locals and seasonal tourists.  Sounds pleasant, doesn't it?  Except bookseller Shelby Cox has already sleuthed two murders from Bayside Books' home base on Blye Island, one of New York State's famed Thousand Islands.  And this time, mayhem knocks right on Shelby's waterside door when she finds a body lodged between the side of her houseboat and the dock, his skull shattered.

The victim is no local, but Shelby can't shake the feeling she's seen him before.  Twice, in fact -- that's how many times he's dropped into Bayside Books asking about an enigmatic woman who lived on Blye Island many years before.  The last time?  The day before he was found.  But the poor man obviously was killed elsewhere, so who brought him down to the bay, and why?

When the victim's daughter hits town demanding answers, Shelby takes the case, despite Police Chief Tekla Stone's usual reservations.  But she uncovers more suspects than there are pages in War and Peace, and Shelby can expect no peace -- except the peace of the grave -- unless she can turn the page on this grisly mystery.

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Shelby Cox co-owns Bayside Books along with her Aunt Edie.  She works at the second store on Blye Island and lives in a houseboat.  Her boyfriend is an investigator for the Coast Guard, and she has a cat named JT.  Her life is pretty great...except when she wakes up one morning and finds a body floating against her houseboat.  Calling the police chief, she's eventually told she needs to leave and not come back until it's clear.

Showing up at her aunt's home in her pajamas, she wears her borrowed clothes to go to work but wants to know who he is.  That's resolved in a way when the chief shows her a picture and she recognizes him as a man who's been to both bookstores looking for an unknown woman.  But the story ends there, or it should -- until the man's daughter shows up asking Shelby for help in trying to find out who killed her father and why.  Shelby, understanding Hillary's need to know, tells her she will ask a few questions...but a few questions could get her killed, if she asks the wrong person...

This is the third book in the series and I have to say that I've been enjoying the progression of Shelby's life in Alexandria Bay.  When she arrived she knew no one except Edie, but that's changed and she has friends all over town.  She's also gained a boyfriend in Zack, and things are progressing nicely.  What I enjoyed most about this book was the fact that we're starting to learn more about Shelby's mother, Merrily, who abandoned her when she was a child.  It's an interesting journey that I hope to see more of.

When Shelby starts asking questions, it seems innocuous enough, but then she discovers things about some of the people she's been questioning, and it draws the attention of Chief Stone, which is never a good thing.  She also has another problem to deal with concerning her personal life, and it's causing her angst in trying to decide what to do.

Shelby is having more than enough problematic situations in her life right now, and dealing with any of them isn't going to be easy.  But she takes her time thinking through most of them, and you know that the right conclusion will come about.

When the ending comes and the murderer is revealed, the surprises are there, as there is more to the story than anyone could have guessed.  While it was all resolved satisfactorily, I eagerly await the next in the series, hoping to continue the journey with Shelby.  Recommended.
