It's Christmastime, and farmer Lucy Resnick is living the life she's always dreamed of.  When she's not selling her jams, soaps, and mistletoe bundles at the Buttercup Christmas market, she's enjoying cozy evenings by the fire with her knitting group -- or her handsome veterinarian boyfriend Tobias Brandt.  But less than a week before Christmas, a pall falls over the festive atmosphere when local man Randy Stone turns up with a knife in his back...and a sprig of mistletoe in his hair.

Local sheriff Rooster Kocurek, never the brightest bulb on the string, is convinced it's an open-and-shut case...murder by jealous wife -- but Lucy suspects otherwise.  She soon discovers that Randy's life was more tangled than last year's Christmas lights...and that unless she wraps up the case fast, there might be more than one funeral this holiday season,

✽✽✽✽✽✽✽✽

Lucy Resnick lost her newspaper job as an investigative reporter when the newspaper downsized.  Fortunately, she was able to purchase her late grandmother's farm and has been happily making it a home along with animals, vegetables, and all the other trappings of a happy life.  It's the holidays, and she's selling homemade products at the annual Buttercup Christmas Market to get her through the winter.

She's approached by her friend Mandy, whose parents own a restaurant, to help her prove her sister Isabella innocent of murdering her husband.  The problem is, Isabella was seen at the restaurant just before her husband Randy was found dead in the parking lot.  When Lucy starts her investigation, she finds that Randy had a mistress -- and may have even been fooling around with other women as well.

But when there's a disappearance, Lucy fears someone may be in trouble, and she's determined to find that person.  Will it lead her to the killer?  Or will it be worse, and the killer finds Lucy first...

This is the fourth book in the series, and I have read the others, so I am familiar with most of the characters.  I read this one because it takes place at Christmas, and I want to 'read the holiday,' as it were,  I truly enjoyed this book and watching Lucy use her investigative skills to get to the truth of the murder.

Because I read a lot of mysteries, I knew what was going on at the ranch and why (I will say no more but you should read the book) but I will say that it was interesting enough for me to want to figure out who the killer might be, and I did so just around the same time as Lucy.  While it was intriguing to watch her put the clues together, the climax itself was worth reading as well.

In the end we discover the reason for the murder, which was easy enough for most to decipher, and as I've said before, you can never know what goes on in the mind of a murderer.  Very sad indeed.  But the ending was bright, and even Christmas-y, which fits right in with the season.  Recommended.
